The B&B Hotel Sonneck is in a very central position between the following three valleys: Eisacktal, Pustertal, and Wipptal and therefore it is an ideal place to stop on your trip. Thanks to the great position, Hotel B&B Sonneck is very easy to reach because it is on the way to your next destination. Whether you are traveling by bike, train, or car: the hotel is very close to a bus stop, motorway exit, and interesting cycle routes, like the very famous bike route from Munich to Venice.

Our comfortable rooms are simply furnished and are perfect for relaxing. In some of them, there is a balcony as well.
Every morning a breakfast buffet and a good cup of coffee or tea provide you a good start to the day. Afterward, you can get back on your bike or motorcycle, hike up the mountain, or go on to a business meeting.

To discover the apple plateau of Natz-Schabs and other places in South Tyrol free of charge by public transport, our guests receive the "Natz-Schabs Guest Pass" and if you have arrived by e-bike or e-car, you are welcome to recharge it at the hotel's own charging station.

BIKEPACKING AMID THE DOLOMITES

BIKING ROUTE FROM MUNICH TO VENICE

The bike route from Munich to Venice offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty and diversity of the Alps. On this 560-kilometer route, you will cross three countries and bike along picturesque rivers, lakes, and mountains, visit historic towns and villages, and enjoy the culinary specialties of each region. The perfect stop on your way is our bike-friendly accommodation in Natz-Schabs, as it is located directly on the bike route and is perfect for continuing with the onward journey. Additionally, there are also good bus and train connections if you want to skip or shorten part of the route.

THE DRAVA CYCLE PATH FROM NATZ-SCHABS TO LINZ

The Drava Cycle Path (also suitable for e-bikers) is one of the most beautiful and varied cycling tours in Europe. This tour leads from the Dolomites in South Tyrol to the vastness of Pannonia, along the Drava River, which connects the countries of Austria, Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. A nice tour starts from Natz-Schabs and ends in Linz. This route is about 100 km long and leads through the untouched Pustertal valley. An adventure on two wheels is guaranteed.

Exploring the surroundings of Brixen

TOWNS, CASTLES, AND CHURCHES
In the surroundings of Schabs and in the village itself there are some very nice corners. In every season you can enjoy the beautiful nature or visit the lovely church of St. Margreth. In winter many guests like to go on the slopes in the near (like Plose or Gitschberg/Jochtal). In autumn you can walk on the chestnut trails and in spring you have to see the unique apple blossom.

MEDIEVAL FLAIR IN BRIXEN/BRESSANONE

Not far from Schabs, there is the magical town of Brixen located. If you have the occasion to go there, it is really worth a visit. One of the town’s highlights is the dome of Brixen. It has Romanesque and Gothic influences and contains frescoes and paintings made by the artist Paul Troger. But the city is also perfect for strolling and exploring typical South Tyrolean dishes.

CULTURAL EVENTS AT FRANZENSFESTE/FORTEZZA

Near Sonneck you can find the powerful Fortress of Franzensfeste. This historic building hosts contemporary art and is a fascinating place that offers a big space for culture. This fortress never stands still given that there are always interesting events and changing exhibitions. It is a wonderful example of a place where the past, present, and future are intertwined.

VISITING CASTLE RODENEGG

How about a visit to one of the most important fortified castles in South Tyrol? At Castle Rodenegg, perched between Schabs and Mühlbach, art and culture enthusiasts can admire rare pieces of art from the 13th century. In fact, the Iwein-frescoes are part of the oldest profane murals in the German-speaking area attracting every year many visitors. If you are interested, you can participate in a guided tour through the castle or stop by during a bike tour or hike and admire it from the outside.

How to find us!

EASY TO REACH AND LOCATED IN A CENTRAL POSITION
The B&B Hotel is only a few minutes’ walk from the center of Schabs away and well connected to public transport. This area in the Eisack Valley is particularly beautiful during spring when the landscape is colored by white and pink apple blossoms. During this period many bikers admire this phenomenon: in fact, the accommodation is in the immediate vicinity of the bike route Munich - Venice. Furthermore, in only three minutes you can reach the bus, which will take you to the nearest train station and from there you can comfortably reach the connecting trains.

BY TRAIN

Traveling by train is very comfortable and the train companies ÖBB, DB, or the SBB and Trenitalia will bring you to South Tyrol. Schabs is very easy to reach with the bus that departs from the train station in Franzensfeste/Fortezza (approx. 25 min) or Brixen/Bressanone (approx. 20 min). But it will get even more comfortable because, with the new train station, you will be able to get on or off at Schabs directly. Every hour there will be trains that go to Bozen/Bolzano and Lienz. This means that there are comfortable, fast, and hourly connections in the direction of Brixen/Bressanone - Bozen/Bolzano - Meran/Merano - Mals/Malles, as well as hourly connections in the direction of Bruneck/Brunico - Innichen/San Candido - Lienz, in both cases, without changing trains.

BY CAR

Brenner (A22 Brenner motorway, tolls) - direction Sterzing - motorway exit Brixen/Pustertal - continue in direction Pustertal and after approx. 1 km turn right to Natz-Schabs
Lienz (East Tyrol) - over the Pustertal - direction Bruneck - follow the signs to Schabs
Landeck - Reschenpass and the Vinschgau Valley to Merano - as far as Bolzano South (MeBo expressway) -A22 highway in the direction of Brenner - exit at Bressanone/Brixen/Pustertal. Continue in the direction of Pustertal and turn right for about 1 km to Natz-Schabs.

WITH THE BIKE

Our hotel is the perfect accommodation if you travel by bike given that it is located on many interesting cycling paths. In fact, one famous cycling path near Sonneck is the one that leads from Mary’s Square to St Mark's Square (Munich-Venice). From Munich the route runs via Bad Tölz - Tegernsee - Achensee, in Austria you cycle via Jenbach - Schwaz - Hall - Innsbruck to Brenner, and then in South Tyrol you continue via Eisacktal, where you can stop in Schabs before riding to Brixen and via Pustertal, further to Val Cadore - Cortina d'Ampezzo - Lago di Santa Croce - Belluno - Treviso and then you finally arrive at the destination Venice.
